Mozambican group Sonil to invest in modernisation of a teaching hotel in Maputo

Mozambican group Sonil is investing US$14 million in the modernisation of teaching hotel, Hotel Escola Andalucia in order to raise the establishment’s category to four stars, the director general of the National Tourism Institute (Inatur) said in Maputo.

Hermenegildo Neves also said that Sonil would manage the hotel for the next 25 years under the terms of a contract signed with the Mozambican government.

Hotel Escola Andalucia, which is located next to Girassol, provides courses for housekeeping, restaurant and bar, reception and kitchen specialisations.

Investments are being made in Mozambique in the tourism sector and a number of activities have been carried out as a way of promoting the country as a top quality destination.

In terms of facilities, for example, a number of airports are being refurbished, notably Maputo international airport, work on which was funded by China.

Vilanculos airport, in the province of Inhambane which is well-known for its beaches, has also been refurbished.

Work is currently underway to transform the Nacala airbase, in Nampula province, into a civilian airport.
