Mozambique an undiscovered investment jewel

The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce recently held a series of tourism investment seminars to educate possible investors on Mozambique’s land legislation – laws that are designed to ensure that all citizens have full access to land, thereby avoiding the conflict that many are facing in Zimbabwe and South Africa.
“Mozambicans do not view ownership of land as a key to prosperity for themselves or their families,” says Ettiene Erasmus, director of Bazaruto Island View Estate. “Land in Mozambique is obtained through a meticulous process. Taking up to a year or more, this process is called obtaining the ‘Land Use Right’.” Only once an investor has obtained this may construction begin.
“The property and land use laws in Mozambique ensure that the local population do not feel they have no access to land, while wealthy individuals and multinational companies purchase the land and do not develop or make use of it for many years,” adds Erasmus. “From our many years’ experience in Mozambique, we view the potential of the country as bright, stable, positive and full of opportunities. Without a doubt, Mozambique is an undiscovered jewel with a tremendous future. Our future plans in Mozambique are long term,” he concludes.
Isabel Macie, Counsellor – Tourism, at the Mozambique High Commission in South Africa, highlighted the importance of Mozambique as a tourism investment destination, outlining what the country had to offer investors.
“Mozambique is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa therefore it offers immense potential to investors,” confirmed Mozam Props Consultants, a Mozambican based company that offers assistance to investors using its knowledge of the language, culture, the Mozambican people and business principles to ensure investments are a success.
