The adventure of the fish market

When I first passed by the fish market located in Maputo, I had no intention to enter the hidden world of restaurants behind it as it looked and smelled like a real battlefield! I soon had to focus and just let go as my fellow travelers were extremely keen to try this much talked about place. When you first arrive, you have to choose and buy your own seafood. It is a real confusion at the market, people are screaming from everywhere promising to have the freshest fish at the cheapest price. I must just inform you, you can have any seafood you can imagine and it all looks too delicious! Now we had to bargain for the price as we had been told that we would easily be ripped off with a big smile.
Once we had picked our lovely food - from prawns, crabs, fish and even shark, you are escorted to the back of the market where once again you are overwhelmed with the waiters trying to get you to sit at their tables. We chose a table and immediately ordered some cool refreshing beers, the seafood that you have picked then is taken out to the kitchen where they prepare and cook it for you - I know amazing!
I must say it was a shock at first, but once the buying of the seafood and the choosing of where to sit was done, we had a fabulous afternoon with absolutely delicious food, great efficient service and a very festive atmosphere of locals mixed with tourist sharing smiles and laughter.
I would recommend that the fish market adventure be on top of your to-do list in Maputo, Mozambique.
